So, our kids had the chance to go up North and stay with Grandma and Grandpa for a week so Dustin and I decided to head over to Blanding and hunt with some friends.

We love hunting as a family, but sometimes it sure is nice to get out as a couple and have the ability to hike the mountainside looking for tracks too. Our four year old can't always make the hikes so a lot of our time together is either spent in the truck or dropping Dustin off to hike a canyon and picking him up on the other side.

The first few times I hunted with Dustin I felt like I was getting left in the dust. He has always been great to check on me every now and then, but it was an entirely new level of trying to keep up. Lessons learned from the past and a few new ones learned from this trip!

I wanted to give you ladies who may not be as hard core as the hubs a few tips I learned this trip:

1. Stay back about ten feet. I don't know how many branches slapped me in the face because when he gets in a hurry following dogs, he forgets who's with him! Sometimes I get looking around and turn just in time to see that branch flying at my face.

2. Pee fast! Ain't no one got time to stop for a potty break and if you drink water like I do, that could be every 15 minutes! I got pretty good at doing my thing darn quick on this trip because I don't know about you, but I hate getting left behind.

3. Pack snacks. When Dustin is hunting he doesn't eat much and my life revolves around food. Counting macros on the mountain was a little tricky at first, but I have found my groove and what works for me.

Snacks that I have found that come in handy are protein bars, bananas, sugar snap peas, and nuts. These are all easy to throw in my backpack and eat while we hike + they don't take up much space.

4. Learn to sleep in the truck instead of drinking your wake up drink first thing. Dustin always stops at the gas station on the way up the hill to grab his coffee, but I've learned that I can get an extra hour of sleep in the truck + feel better about life the rest of the day.

Maybe you aren't mama bear on no sleep like, me, but it takes a lot of self-control on the days I don't get enough!

I learned a lot this trip and had a lot of fun too. Avid hunters like my hubs get a one track mind when the dogs are treed or they are on a mission to find a track so sometimes I feel like I get left in the dust and I don't always know exactly what's going on or how to best help.

I feel like being on the mountain this trip with not only Dustin, but the dogs helped so much. The dogs always listen to him, but me... not so much. I stepped out of my comfort zone, handling them more and l feel like I gained a little more respect from them.

Maybe that seems silly, but it's a lot different spending the time out there than at home for me. I'm still feeling like I don't know as much as I'd like about the hound hunting world, but I'm getting there and I feel like no matter how often we go, I'll always learn something new each time.

I love being on the mountain and still having the ability to do what I love which is photographing the journey. This is something we will be doing until the day we die so I'll keep sharing the tidbits we learn right here until the end of time!
